The Trials of the Directionally Challenged!
[This is my picture. I conceptualized it, and paid a Fiverr artist to create it!]
ARE YOU DIRECTIONALLY CHALLENGED?
Don't know what that means, you say?
Well, let me explain.
Do you find yourself utterly perplexed whenever someone points out something as being to your right or your left?
When you visit a large building, after your business is
completed, do you have to get help to find the exit?
Even more unsettling, have you ever lost your way to and/or
from a place that you’ve visited several times before?
If you can answer in the affirmative to any of those
questions, chances are, your are directionally challenged to some
degree.
It may be that deciphering left from right is your Achilles’
heel, but for you, identifying east west north and south is a cinch.
On the other hand, you may be able to easily point out left
and right, but the cardinal points of the compass are like a foreign language
to you.
If, like me, you can’t tell left from right, east from west
or north from south, you are definitely directionally challenged!
Believe me, there are millions and millions (perhaps
billions) of people, the world over who experience varying degrees of
difficulty navigating from one place to another.
Many of these people are told that they are at various
points on a spectrum of some syndrome. Others are even told that they have a
birth defect, or, they may have sustained brain damage at some point, or they
are, quite plainly, stupid.
That is why I've written a book about being directionally
challenged! It's titled: Center Brained: Why you can't tell left from
right, east from west or north from south; and in it, I explore the
possible reasons we could be directionally challenged, and give some
suggestions about how our situation should be treated.
I want directionally challenged people to stop being ashamed
of their condition (I, personally, am not), and I want the rest of the world to
know that we are intelligent, creative, resourceful, and quite
accomplished in our fields of endeavor. We just have difficulties with
orientation and navigation.
I'd love to hear from you, whether or not you think you're directionally challenged.
